What Day is National Donut Day 2024?
Friday, June 7th is National Donut Day. Several stores help celebrate with free donuts – or at least at a discounted price.
But first a little history. Yes, National Donut Day (or National Donut Day if you prefer) isn’t just about free dessert. The holiday was first launched in 1938 as a fundraiser for the Salvation Army.
The organization organized the event to raise funds during the Great Depression and to honor the ‘girls’ who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.
These morale-boosting volunteers later came to be known as ‘donut dollies’ among men. The donut celebration has taken off and National Donut Day is now celebrated on the first Friday in June each year. Savage discounts are offered across the United States.

Krispy Kreme, for example, celebrates in a very special way with several offers.
“Krispy Kreme will make this day a fun feast with donuts sprinkled with joy,” the company said on its website.

Why was the first National Donut Day started?
National Donut Day was established in 1938 “to honor the women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I,” according to the national holiday.
“The aim of your fundraiser in 1938 was to help those in need during the Great Depression.” The “Salvation Army donut” was first served in 1917, according to the sales point.
“Home-cooked meals provided by these brave volunteers raised the morale of the troops,” the national holiday calendar reads.
Donuts were often cooked in oil in the metal helmets of American soldiers. “American infantrymen were commonly referred to as ‘doughboys’ at the time.”
The best way to celebrate the day is to buy a donut or donate it to first responders or charities.
What’s the Difference Between Doughnut or Donut?
Donut first appeared in the Oxford English Dictionary in 1782, according to the NPR, but both spellings are widely used.
“This is a purely personal preference because they look just as acceptable when checked,” said Mary McCoy of the Los Angeles Central Library of the point of sale.

From 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, you will receive a frozen “Do-Nut” for free with every purchase, while stocks last. Receive a free Bag O ‘Donuts with every $40 purchase on Friday at Smokey Bones.
Tim Hortons is a fast-food restaurant chain. This Donut Day promotion starts on Thursday and runs until June 15th.
When registered Rewards members search for rewards in restaurants, place a mobile order, or place a delivery, they can receive a Classic or Specialty donut for 50 cents on every eligible purchase over 50 cents.
