UAE Issues Discounts On Water And Electricity Bills
In a commendable move, the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has directed the Department of Community Development, in partnership with Etihad Water and Electricity, to support low-income farmers struggling financially.
The Department for Community Development and Etihad Water and Electricity has announced a grant scheme for farmers from July 2023.
This program will help low-income farmers by directly reducing the amount they pay on their monthly electricity and water bills.
Last month, the United Arab Emirates also unveiled ambitious plans to improve agribusiness as part of its overall strategy to boost the economy in the sector.
According to the plans, the farms can operate holiday homes and offer tourist activities on their premises. However, anyone who wants to operate a tourism business on agricultural land must obtain a license and may only use up to 30% of their area for this purpose.
