UAE Introduces New Law For Employers To Guarantee Peace Of Mind For All Workers

The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Human Resources and Emirates (MoHRE) has mandated employers to treat and compensate injured employees following work-related accidents or illnesses.

The new Ministerial Decision No. 657 defines the means and requirements for employers to report accidents at work and occupational diseases in order to ensure the safety of workers. Failure to comply with this instruction will result in severe disciplinary sanctions against the employer.

The resolution also serves as a watchdog for organizations with more than 50 employees and how they deal with workplace injuries. It forces them to set up systems to monitor accidents at work.

Under the new law, the employer must treat and compensate the employee in line with their base salary. In addition, the employee will receive compensation within 10 days of the confirmation of the medical report on the degree of disability.

In the event of the employee’s death, his legal heirs will be compensated in accordance with the laws of the United Arab Emirates or the will of the deceased.

Employers are also not allowed to terminate the affected worker unless he receives all mandatory benefits. However, if the employee resigns, all rights to treatment and compensation based on the medical report remain.

Employees can report work-related illnesses or injuries by calling (600) 590-000, visiting Business Service Centers, or using MoHRE’s mobile apps.
