Tommy Dorfman played the character, Ryan Shaver, in the Netflix drama 13 Reasons Why.

Therefore, the television star is well known to a certain audience segment.

And even:

Dorfman is here now to reintroduce himself to the world …

… like a woman.

“For a year I have identified and have been living privately as a woman, a trans woman,” Tommy told some magazine in a new interview with writer Torrey Peters.

“It’s fun to think about going out because I haven’t been anywhere.”

“I see it today as a reintroduction to myself as a woman after making a medical transition,” Dorfman added.

“Today it is clear: I am a trans woman. My pronouns are she/she. My name is Tommy.”

The actress, who has been reporting on her style and appearance changes on her Instagram for several months, says that she felt the need to speak publicly about her gender identity in order to be in control of her own narrative her.

She wants to be in control.

“I live in this other version of coming out that I don’t feel confident enough to talk about, so I do. But I realize the transition is beautiful. Why not let the world see it as it looks?” She said.

So instead I kept a time capsule in an Instagram diary, one that shows a living body in a more fluid space.

“However, as an audience-oriented person, I have learned that my refusal to provide information can deprive me of the freedom to control my own narrative.”

“With this medical transition, my body was talked about and I felt overwhelmed.”

Dorfman says that she will not change her name. He was given in honor of her mother’s brother … who died shortly after giving birth.

“I feel very attached to that name, to a guy who hugged me when he died,” she said.

“It’s an evolution of Tommy. I’m becoming more of Tommy.”

Dorfman also had roles in Love in the Time of Corona; With love, Viktor; and Juana the virgin.

“I’m best known for playing a gay bitch poet in a soap opera,” he said at the time.

“And I was worried that by actively transitioning in my personal life, I would lose the career they told me I should have.”

But I’m no longer interested in playing ‘male’ characters … Sometimes it’s enough to say, ‘No, I just am.’

In addition to her professional life, Tommy also reflected on aspects of her personal relationships that have changed.

Personally, it’s crazy to be 29 and relive puberty. Some days I feel like I am 14 years old. As a result of this change, the types of romantic partners I seek are different. I was in a nine-year relationship where I was viewed as a more manly person with a gay man.

“I love him very much, but we have learned that what interests me as a trans woman is not necessarily reflected in a gay man.”

“So we had some amazing conversations to redefine our relationship as friends. The transition was liberating and clear.”
