Samantha Dehring is an Illinois woman who was sentenced to prison for getting too close to a grizzly bear in Yellowstone National Park. The meeting was recorded and the video was shared online.

Dehring of Carol Stream, Illinois, visited Yellowstone National Park on 10th May 2021.
She and the rest of her group saw a mother grizzly bear and three cubs while exploring Roaring Mountain, the Justice Department said.
As per the park officials, the rest of the group slowly walked away from the bears and got into their vehicles. Dehring decided to stand near the bears to take photos.
The mother bear stormed in Dehring’s direction, but fortunately did not attack her, as the video of the encounter shows. Then Dehring put the cell phone in her pocket and walked away from her.
Plead Guilty
Park rangers began investigating the incident in late May and asked the public to help identify the woman in the video.
As per the National Park Service, investigators charged Dehring on 2nd August.
She initially faced two charges:
Volunteer, get up close and photograph wildlife within 100 yards Intentionally feeding, touching, disturbing, scaring, or disturbing wildlife Dehring appeared in court in Mammoth Hot Springs, Wyoming on 6th October.
She pleaded guilty on the first count. The second charge was dismissed, according to a press release from the Justice Department.

Imprisoned
Judge Mark L. Carman sentenced Dehring to four days in prison and one year of unsupervised probation. She was asked to pay a fine of $1,000 and an additional $1,000 to the Yellowstone Forever Wildlife Protection Fund.
Dehring was also banned from visiting Yellowstone National Park for a year.
