Quentin Carradine School Teacher Shot Dead While Driving
After being shot in the south end of Chicago, a family mourns the loss of a teacher who worked for the Chicago Public Schools.
In his family, Quentine Carradine was the guiding spirit.
“My little boy has had a job since I was 16. He worked two jobs to make sure he could provide for his family and that they were never without them,” said Carmel Carradine, Quentine’s mother.
His children said his work at the Chicago Public Schools went well beyond mere employment.
Quentine’s work in special education and as a basketball coach has made him an “integral part” of New Sullivan Elementary School, according to the CPS.
Carradine was fatally shot Monday after school while crossing King Drive and 87th Street, just blocks from his mother’s home, according to Chicago police. His pain is excruciating.
“Whoever did this to him was wrong; You shouldn’t have killed him like a stray dog. He was a very honest man,” his mother said.
Quentine may have been caught in the crossfire, but investigators on Chicago’s Far South Side aren’t sure. They still don’t know many details about what happened or who was involved. His relatives are angry.
“These hooligans here are killing people, killing lives for no reason,” Quentine’s sister said.
“We want whoever did this to my brother to have destroyed our family.”
The victim, his brother, son, and father, were killed shortly before his 50th birthday and the family said they wanted to know who fired the fatal shot.
The CPS released a statement saying, “The horrific death of Quentine Carradine has shocked the Chicago public school community. Mr. Carradine was an integral part of New Sullivan and made a significant impact on the lives of many students through his exceptional work in special education and as a basketball coach for our elementary athletic program. At this difficult time, our thoughts are with the Carradine family, their friends, and the entire New Sullivan and CPS community.”
