Prince Philip’s ‘Greek God’ used to ‘brag’ to Queen Elizabeth II

Prince Philip is said to have been a major con man in his heyday, having been dubbed a “Greek god” and known for “looking like a fool” in front of the Queen and Princess Margaret, according to the Queen’s maid of honor.

Lady Pamela, who was also the monarch’s maid of honor, spoke about her friendship with the monarch during a panel with her daughter India Hicks.

India told her mother during the panel: “Your father, my grandfather, already thought that maybe it would be a good thing. They met while she was attending Dartmouth College when she was 13 and she was already quite in love by that point” with Prince Philip.

To which Lady Pamela replied: “Well he was a Greek god and of course, he came across as crazy because he had been told to look after the two princesses and he came across as crazy. Later all the girls in England fell in love with him, he was really handsome.”

India also explained how the British court “fought” to accept Philip, “a Greek prince with no money, no position at court and indeed no home”.

Additionally, it was reported that Winston Churchill also said he was “against” the Queen’s relationship with Prince Philip.

Lady Pamela added: “Churchill was really very constructive and felt that the penniless Greek prince should be put out of the way and that the Queen was too young and inexperienced to have the strength to argue with him.”

“So it took a couple of years for her to feel competent enough to say she wanted Philip to have a job and a job.”
