Prince Harry Will Probably Never Be King

After the death of Queen Elizabeth, there is a new line of succession to the British throne.

Prince William could only have become king immediately after Queen Elizabeth II if Charles had died before her, according to Robert Hazell, professor of government and constitution at University College London.

“When William becomes king, Kate becomes queen,” said Hazell. “Nothing prevents William from becoming king except his own untimely death.”

The Duke of Sussex will most likely never see the throne as he is behind Prince William and Middleton’s children according to the line of succession set by Buckingham Palace.

After William, his eldest son, Prince George, is next in line to the royal throne.

“If William died before Charles, then Prince George would become king when Charles died,” Hazell said. Charlotte and Louis succeed George in the line of succession.

Only after William and Middleton’s children are ineligible for the throne can Prince Harry become king. This is true even though he has retired from royal life: he is still in the royal line of succession.
