PMD Predicts Heavy Rain And Snow This Weekend

The prevailing drought wave appears to be coming to an end as a strong weather system from the west is expected to infiltrate the country over the weekend, which lasts until Tuesday.

As per the warning from the Pakistani Meteorological Department (PMD), the system will penetrate the western and upper parts on Saturday, spread to most of the country on Sunday, and last until Tuesday.

As a result, heavy rains are expected on Saturdays and Sundays in most parts of Balochistan, Sindh, and southern Punjab, as well as Islamabad, central and upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan from Sunday to Tuesday.

In addition, heavy snowfall is expected on Saturday and Sunday in Quetta, Pishin, Ziarat, Qilla Abdullah, Harnai, and Chaman and from Sunday to Tuesday in Murree, Galliyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Haveli, Rawalakot, Naran, Kaghan, and Hunza.

In this regard, a PMD spokesman said the upcoming weather system will remove the smog prevalent in urban areas and benefit the wheat harvest.

The spokesman warned all civil protection agencies to remain vigilant, warning that heavy rainfall in parts of Balochistan on Saturday and Sunday could cause lightning and heavy snowfall could lead to road closures in northern regions.
