On 26th February 2014, Carpenter called the police after finding the body of 57-year-old Pfister in a walk-in closet at his Aspen home.

As reported by The Aspen Times, her neck area was covered with a towel covered with an extension cord, according to the murder affidavit.

Pfister was involved in a dispute with the Stylers at the time of his murder.

According to Snapped: Killer Couples, when questioned by authorities, the Stylers did not deny having a disagreement with Pfister. The couple claimed that after moving into the Pfister home, she began “treating them like employees and demanding that they run errands for them.”

Nancy Styler told police that she and her husband left Pfister’s home before he returned from Australia. He claimed that they could not have committed the deadly crime because they no longer had access to the property.

Trey told authorities that he could not have killed Pfister due to his health issues (he suffered from a degenerative neurological disorder).

A hammer was discovered inside a garbage bag in a trash can near Aspenalt Lodge in Basalt, Colorado, where the Stylers were staying, according to the Aspen Daily News. Trey Styler’s DNA was found in the bag.

The outlet says: “Among other items found in the garbage bag were 10 bottles of prescription drugs bearing Pfister’s name; your passport and driving license; and an airline boarding pass in your name.”

“All of this was found along with the Stylers’ registration papers for their Jaguar sedan, various documents in the Stylers’ names, and a receipt for an Aspen PO box in the name of William Styler.”

As the publication reported, a key to the closet where Pfister’s body was found was lying on the floor near Styler’s hotel room. The same type of garbage bag used to wrap Pfister’s body was in Styler’s Jaguar.

Trey, 65, and Nancy Styler, 62, were arrested at Aspenalt Lodge on March 3, 2014, and charged with first-degree murder, according to CBS News.

According to Summit Daily, Carpenter was arrested in March 2014 and charged with first-degree murder.

Oxygen said, “As seen in the episode ‘Snapped: Killer Couples,’ after investigators learned that Kathy Carpenter was sympathetic to the Stylers because of her dislike for Pfister, investigators began questioning the consistency of statements made during her 911 call asked to suspect their involvement in the crime.”

Trey was sentenced to 20 years in prison in June 2014 after pleading guilty to second-degree murder, according to ABC News.

The murder charges against Nancy Styler and Carpenter were dropped after their confession.

Nancy Styler moved to Massachusetts and changed her last name to Masson, according to the Aspen Daily News.

According to the Aspen Daily News, Trey died on 6th August 2015, at the age of 67 after hanging himself in his cell.

After Trey’s death, Masson attempted to get a million-dollar life insurance policy, according to Oxygen. Trey had bought the policy and Masson was the designated beneficiary.

According to the Aspen Times, Masson was ordered to repay the 1 Million USD after Juliana Pfister filed a 25 Million USD wrongful death lawsuit against him.
