Miftah Ismail Warns of Further Increases in Petrol Prices

Federal Govt Finance Minister Miftah Ismail warned the public of a further increase in petrol prices.

Ismail discussed the issue on a popular talk show and said the government had no choice but to hike petrol prices in light of the deal signed by the previous government with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He predicted that the economic crisis would ease in three months.

Federal Minister Miftah Ismail claimed to have asked the IMF to come up with a better deal as the current deal does not favor Pakistan. He also promised to address the shortage of wheat flour in KP.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif recently launched the Sasta Gasoline Sasta Diesel program to help the disadvantaged parts of Pakistan.

People with a monthly household income below Rs. 40,000/- are the main beneficiaries of this 786 Program Sasta Petrol Sasta Diesel Scheme. The government has allocated Rs 28 billion to help nearly 14 million marginalized households across the country.

In any case, however, the commute will become a challenge for everyone as petrol prices are expected to reach 270 rupees per liter by the end of June.
