Since Qatar secured the right to host the tournament in 2010, the country’s lack of infrastructure has drawn much criticism from the football community. 12 years later, the Qatari authorities have secured the construction and renovation of 8 state-of-the-art stadiums that will host the FIFA World Cup.

Al Bayt Stadium

The Al Bayt Stadium in the city of Al Khor will host the opening match of the tournament between Qatar and Ecuador on November 20th. The architecture of the stadium is tent-inspired and has a seating capacity of 60,000.

Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium

Al Janoub Stadium in the city of Al Wakrah is inspired by the traditional design of boats in Qatar. The stadium was built in 2019 and has a capacity of 40,000.

The stadium will host a total of seven games, including six group games and a round of 16. The first match at the stadium will be between France and Australia on November 22nd, while the round of 16 will also be played at the state-of-the-art stadium on December 5th.

Al Thumama Stadium

Al Thumama Stadium in the city of Al Thumama will host seven matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, including one of the quarterfinals. A total of 8 games will be played in the stadium.

The Khalifa International Stadium is located in the Qatari capital of Doha and has a capacity of 45,416 spectators. The stadium will host eight games in total, including six group games, a round of 16 game,s and the third-place play-off.

The first match at the stadium will be between England and Iran on November 21, while the third-place match will take place on December 17.

Stadium 974

Stadium 974 is a unique stadium located in the Ras Abu Aboud area of ​​Doha. The stadium is a temporary venue built from shipping containers and will be dismantled after the 2022 FIFA World Cup is over.

The stadium has a capacity of 40,000 spectators and will host a total of seven matches, including six group matches and a round of 16.

The first match at the stadium will be between Mexico and Poland on November 22nd.

Lusail Stadium

Lusail Stadium in the city of Lusail is the largest stadium in the country with a capacity of 80,000 spectators. Lusail Stadium will host up to 10 matches including a semi-final and the final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
