Lauren Pazienza is a Long Island native who is arrested in the 87-year-old vocal coach’s “nonsense” Manhattan Street Shove Death.
Last week, a senior NYPD official called the case “a disgusting and shameful crime against a vulnerable elderly woman who did nothing but walk the streets of New York.”

What Was The Details Of An Incident?
Active performer and vocal coach Barbara Maier Gustern was finishing rehearsal in Chelsea last Thursday night when the woman came up behind her and threw her to the ground.
Gustern suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital in critical condition.
Police announced five days later that he had succumbed to his injuries.
A source close to the case told Eyewitness News that Pazienza did not know the victim. The reason, if any, is still unclear.
Gustern was walking down 28th Street to attend a student performance when the woman attacked her near 8th Avenue.
Gustern’s grandson, A.J. spoke to Eyewitness News on Monday.
“She’s the light of my life,” he said after he flew from Colorado to be with his grandmother at Bellevue Hospital. “I’m mad at the state of the world. I’m mad at the state of the city.
Gustern had been well known in the theater world for decades.
He has worked with singers, actors in the revival of the musical “Oklahoma!” on Broadway in 2019. To Taylor Mac, experimental theater performer and recipient of the 2017 MacArthur “Genius Grant,” who told the New York Times she was “one of the greatest people I’ve ever met.”
Her late husband, Joe Gustern, was also a singer and was dubbed “The Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway.

Arrested
The woman allegedly wanted to push away a beloved 87-year-old grandmother, who later died of her injuries in a random, unprovoked attack in New York City and turned herself in to police on Tuesday.
Lauren Pazienza, 26, of Port Jefferson, went to the 10th Circuit and was charged with involuntary manslaughter.
