Judy Reardon Cause Of Death At 64
Manchester’s Judy Reardon died on Friday at the age of 64 after a long illness. She is best recognized for her professional contributions to Manchester and New Hampshire politics, most notably her time as Senior Advisor and Political Strategist (D-NH) to Jeanne Shaheen.
However, Reardon was Reardon’s younger sister, a horror film lover, and scout for State Representative Patty Cornell (D-Manchester).
“We weren’t really political together. We travel a lot,” Cornell said. The couple has traveled the world, visiting countries such as Africa, Iceland, and Italy, and visiting state parks in Utah.
“We did a lot of fun things together. we were sisters you know.”
Patrick and Viola (née Vergas), a young couple living at R.G. Sullivan Cigar Factory on Pleasant Street, welcomed Reardon on February 12, 1958. On the East Side, the family moved into a small house at the corner of Summer Streets. and Dearborn.
The sisters’ future involvement in the community was preordained from the start, as their mother represented District 5 on the Manchester School Board Committee for more than 20 years. His father was a World War II veteran who later worked as an engineer for the B&M Railroad.
Reardon’s first job was as a hostess at Mr. Steak at the crossroads of Auburn and Elm. Reardon attended Dartmouth College after graduating from Central High School in 1976. There she worked as an editor for the college newspaper, eventually graduating with a bachelor’s degree. in economics and later earned a JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
Reardon joined the renowned Manchester law firm of McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton in 1983. The law firm was founded by the great-grandfather of US MP Ann McLane Kuster (D-NH-02). Reardon spent five years there as an attorney and served two terms as a state representative, where she was elected Democratic whip in her second term.
Reardon served in an executive position during Paul McEachern’s 1988 gubernatorial campaign before serving on the 2004 presidential campaigns of John Lynch and John Kerry.
“Judy Reardon was a trailblazer and paved the way for women in NH politics and government,” Kuster wrote on Twitter following news of Reardon’s death. “Judy has been a good friend for almost 40 years since we first started working at the McLane law firm.”
In 1989, Reardon left his position at Planned Parenthood of Northern New England to work as a public defender. Three years later, she was hired to fill the position of director of public affairs. This was just the beginning of a lifetime of lobbying, paid and unpaid.
Reardon was Shaheen’s legal representative when she was sworn in in 1997 as New Hampshire’s first female governor. And Reardon moved to Washington, D.C. after Shaheen was elected New Hampshire’s first female senator in 2009. Reardon was eventually inducted into the Central High Hall of Fame. in honor of their achievements.
