Howard Bragman Cause Of Death

Howard Bragman, a PR titan who helped star clients overcome a brain teaser while becoming a crisis PR guru and crucial ally for LBGTQ rights, has died. His current age was 66 years.

A family member confirmed his death to The Hollywood Reporter. His friend John Duran also tweeted about it on Saturday night.

“My dear old friend of the last 30 years passed away tonight. RIP Howard Bragman. LGBT warrior. Gentle Giant. Bad humor. I love you forever. See you on the other side,” Duran’s tweet read.

Bragman was frequently on the list of people to ask for help when a Hollywood star needed help. Most recently she represented controversial talk show personality Wendy Williams, but over the years she has also represented Chaz Bono and Monica Lewinsky.

At a time when coming out could end a career, Bragman was also known for secretly helping gay celebrities come out. Family Ties star Meredith Baxter was one of the people he helped get honest with; gave an interview after fearing the tabloids would publish pictures of her and her companion.

Specifically, he was asked to help Sam, a top pick for the NFL draft and later a University of Missouri defensive end, with his decision to speak publicly ahead of the 2014 draft. Bragman would work with major outlets like The New York Times, ESPN, and OutSports to plan the historic announcement.

In a statement on behalf of GLAAD, the organization’s President and CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis, hailed Bragman as an industry leader “who has masterfully harnessed the power of the press to create positive change and visibility for LGBTQ people.”

“Throughout her long career, she has worked with many LGBTQ figures to ensure their coming-out stories were treated with dignity and impacted the broader community,” she said for the follow-up.

“His own visibility as a top executive, coupled with his trademark humor and bold approach to public relations, has left an unforgettable mark on the media, entertainment, and PR industries.”

Due to his notoriety stemming from his extensive crisis management experience, Bragman was frequently asked by the media, including THR, to share his knowledge of famous people caught in the crossfire.

He was one of the founders of the PR firm Bragman Nyman Cafarelli, which Weber Shandwick Worldwide bought in 2001 and merged with PMK to form PMK-BNC. He later founded La Brea Media and the PR agency Quince Minutos. In 2011 he was named Vice President of Reputation.com.
