Dubai residents are expecting an extraordinary celebration in heaven this Friday, during which they will have the opportunity to experience the beauty of the cosmos.

The much-anticipated “Da Vinci Glow” phenomenon will light up the crescent moon in Dubai on May 19th at 6:45 PM. What is special about this event is that it can be observed without special equipment, allowing residents to experience it with the naked eye.

Also called earthshine, the phenomenon occurs when faint light appears on the moon, casting a subtle glow along its rim.

The name “Da Vinci Glow” honors Leonardo da Vinci, who first provided an explanation for this phenomenon in the early 16th century.

Observing this phenomenon also takes time, as it is only visible during a specific period just before sunrise or after sunset.

According to Sarath Raj, project manager for Amity Dubai Satellite Ground Station and AmiSat at Amity University Dubai, the next new moon is expected to be on May 19th. On this day the moon rises at 5:05 AM in the east-northeast and will set at 6:54 PM west-northwest, giving observers an exceptional celestial experience.
