Google launches the first Folding Pixel phone with Samsung display by the end of this year

News about a foldable Google Pixel phone has been circulating on the internet for some time. Earlier this year, a patent filed by Google with WIPO appeared online detailing the designs of two different hinge mechanisms.

A few weeks after the patent was discovered, 9to5Google spotted mentions of the upcoming foldable Pixel in beta for Android 12.

The company has already confirmed that it plans to launch its first foldable Pixel phone in late 2021.

To back up any leaks and rumors, a Korean publication The Elec has reported that Samsung will start producing foldable OLED panels for the upcoming foldable phones from Google, Vivo, and Xiaomi in October. All of these foldable devices are due to be announced later this year.

According to recent reports, Google has codenamed its foldable phone ‘Passport’. It is expected to arrive with the upcoming Pixel 6 and Pixel 5a 5G.

The Elec detailed that it will have a single 7.6-inch panel that folds inward. The phone’s code name also suggests that it will fold inward, like the Samsung Galaxy Fold series.

We’re not sure if the Pixel Fold comes with a display developed by Google or if the company uses Samsung-branded panels. However, the idea of Google designing its own screen is not far-fetched.
