Fujairah Announces Heavy Fines For Pedestrians And Drivers Who Don’t Follow The Rules
The Fujairah Police Department has launched a campaign called “I Have the Right to Cross Safely” to increase road safety and reduce hit-and-run accidents.
This month-long initiative is in line with the Home Office’s goals and aims to educate the community about road safety and pedestrian rights, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, women, and people with disabilities.
The campaign will include more traffic enforcement patrols, educational messages on social media and text messages, and pedestrian safety presentations.
Colonel Saleh Muhammad Abdullah Al-Dhanhani, Director of the Traffic and Patrol Department, stressed the importance of promoting cooperation between drivers and pedestrians to reduce the incidence of accidents caused by speeding, reckless driving, and distracted drivers or pedestrians are caused.
He urged motorists to exercise caution and obey posted speed limits, particularly in densely populated areas such as residential areas, markets, and areas near schools.
Pedestrians not following traffic lights or crossing at unauthorized points are fined Dh400, while drivers who do not give way to pedestrians at designated crosswalks are fined Dh500 and receive 6 penalty points on their driving license.
First Lt. Moza Abdulsalam Al Darmaki, director of the Department of Traffic Information and Awareness, stressed the need for drivers to comply with traffic laws and regulations to prevent accidents resulting in death and property damage.
