Expected Petrol Price in Pakistan in September 2023

Pakistan’s temporary government is poised to escalate the cost of petrol in the initial two weeks of September 2023, aligning with the global trend, due to the consecutive setbacks faced by the rupee.

According to credible insider sources as reported by the media, there’s a possibility that the price of petrol could surge by as much as Rs20 per liter starting next month. This potential increase arrives as an additional jolt for people grappling with inflation, who are already bearing the brunt of elevated food prices. Since fuel costs have a direct impact on transportation and agriculture, any upward shift will further strain the general population.

Amidst the ongoing strain on the local currency, there’s a potential for petrol prices to climb by over Rs10 per liter, and diesel might experience an uptick of Rs20 per liter. With this adjustment, the price of petrol would reach approximately Rs300.45 per liter. Concurrently, the cost of High-Speed Diesel is anticipated to leap by Rs20 per liter, potentially reaching around Rs313.40 per liter.

In addition, other petroleum products such as Kerosene oil and Light Speed Diesel might encounter an increase of up to Rs14 per liter. This looming price adjustment comes in the wake of recent weeks that have already witnessed a surge of Rs37.50 per liter in petrol price and Rs40 per liter in diesel price.

The projected escalation in prices exacerbates the existing predicament, as both petrol and diesel prices had already undergone an increment of about Rs20 per liter during the last pricing revision.
