EU Issues New Visa System For The Schengen Countries

The European Union (EU) has ratified a new online visa system to make it easier for third-country nationals to enter Schengen countries without a visa or at short notice.

According to the information, the new online visa system should be introduced at the end of this year. Upon entry into force, the above category of travelers will no longer need to put a physical stamp in their passports when entering or exiting the Schengen area.

Instead, it is tracked by the Entry/Exit System (ESS). The ESS collects information such as name, photograph, travel document type, entry/exit date, entry/exit location, and length of stay.

The ESS aims to revolutionize the procedures that third-country nationals have to follow after entering the Schengen area. It is also planned to allow these travelers to easily enter and exit Schengen countries.

In a recent statement, the European Parliament announced the adoption of the report on the digitization of visa procedures in the Schengen area with 34 votes in favor, 5 against, and 20 abstentions.

In addition, the European Parliament stressed that digitizing the visa application process would ensure uniform practices across the EU.
