Emirates And Flydubai Extend Suspension Of Flights To Sudan

Two UAE-based airlines, Flydubai, and Emirates, have extended the suspension of their flights to Sudan until 25th April amid armed clashes at Khartoum Airport and several other areas.

Those airlines had announced a suspension from April 15-17 following a worrying situation in Sudan when a paramilitary force, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), took control of Khartoum International Airport (KRT) and armed clashes with the Sudanese army raised.

Meanwhile, Air Arabia had previously said all of its flights would remain suspended until further notice.

Problems in Sudan

Witnesses said the Sudanese army appeared to have won a violent power struggle against a paramilitary opposition group on Sunday by using airstrikes on its bases.

The fighting has killed 97 civilians and injured 365 since it began, according to Sudanese medical teams.

Violence erupted on Saturday between Sudanese army units loyal to General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, chairman of the country’s Transitional Sovereign Council, and the RSF led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also deputy chairman of the council.

It is the first instance of such a dispute since the two groups combined to overthrow former authoritarian leader Omar Hassan al-Bashir in 2019. The disagreement arose over the RSF’s integration into the military as part of a transition to civilian rule.
