Elon Musk made his hosting debut on Saturday Night Live (SNL) and if Tesla’s inventing appearance on the comedy was unsurprising, he had other shocking revelations as well.

The Tesla CEO casually slipped into the question of how he got Asperger in the middle of his SNL bit.

What Causes Asperger’s Syndrome?

Asperger’s is a neurodevelopmental disorder. It is characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction and non-verbal communication.

This includes communication problems because they lose social cues like body language, expressions, etc. They often avoid eye contact with people.

Asperger’s Syndrome is part of a broader neurodevelopmental disorder called Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

People with Asperger’s are on the more functional end of the spectrum. They are intelligent and can be highly motivated or “have an obsessive focus on a topic or action“.

According to the UK’s National Autism Society, people with Asperger’s may have a harder time: “In particular, understanding and relating to other people and participating in everyday family, school, work, and social life.”

In his SNL monologue, the SpaceX CEO revealed that he has Asperger’s. He was the first presenter to allow him to appear on the late-night comedy show.

Some people who have closely followed Elon Musk’s Tesla and SpaceX success have previously commented that the CEO’s antics are like “he’s on the spectrum.” Then they did it right.

This admission will likely only increase admiration for Elon Musk.

Not many people with Asperger’s stand out, but those who do are child prodigies in their respective fields. Other key figures from Asperger were Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sir Isaac Newton, Jerry Seinfeld, Nikola Tesla and Marie Curie.

Previously, when he appeared on the Joe Rogan podcast, the Tesla co-founder joked about his strange habits and said he was “characterized by being a CEO who always takes drugs.” Elon Musk explained that while it might be strange, this is how your brain works.

“Look, I know I say or post strange things sometimes, but that’s how my brain works. For anyone who has been offended, I just want to tell you that I’ve reinvented electric cars and that I’m sending people to Mars with a rocket Did you think I would be a normal, laid-back guy too?” He said.
