Eileen St. John obituary: Kansas Wesleyan University has decided to postpone all activities from Thursday through Sunday, along with canceling classes on Thursday and Friday, following the tragic passing of the head of its teacher education department, Dr. Eileen St. John, whose body was discovered in a campus office.

The news of Dr. St. John’s passing has deeply affected students, who are now reflecting on her legacy. Skyler Evans, a junior at KWU, expressed, “Care and love. I haven’t heard anything bad about her class.”

Dr. St. John, revered by students, was described by KWU sophomore Maria Stanislow as “a kind, caring person” who was “very laid-back and fun to be around.”

The cause of Dr. St. John’s death was determined by Salina police, who concluded that it was not a criminal matter and subsequently closed the case. She was found in her office on Thursday morning, succumbing to a gunshot wound.

Authorities were alerted to the incident just before 8 a.m. following reports of an injured person inside Pioneer Hall on campus. Despite the tragedy, both the police and the university assured the community that there was no threat to safety on campus.

Kansas Wesleyan University conveyed the heartbreaking news of Dr. St. John’s passing to students via email, announcing the cancellation of classes due to the campus tragedy. Subsequently, a campus-wide meeting was held to provide further explanation to students and faculty.

The atmosphere on campus is palpably tense as students grapple with the uncertainty surrounding the identity of the deceased.

“You can feel how serious the tension is in the air because at this point the students don’t know if it’s a student or a faculty member who is passing through,” remarked Cynder Toman, a KWU sophomore, expressing her shock upon hearing the news.

Dr. St. John was remembered by KWU as a dedicated campus leader who wholeheartedly devoted herself to her students every day. Her students fondly recalled her sense of humor and her ability to bring laughter to any situation.
