Christian Childers’ Fiancee, Kendra Elliot, Has Criticized FEMA

After Hurricane Ian devastated the area, the grieving fiancee of a father of two who died in Florida from complications caused by toxic mold slammed FEMA for allegedly not offering to help.

Christian Childers, 26, died Monday of an asthma attack, according to the WTSP.

His devastated fiancee, Kendra Elliot, said the attack was caused by black mold that had built up in their home since Hurricane Ian inundated it in September.

The family had been trying to move for months, but Elliott said they needed help because of skyrocketing rents.

She said they have asked FEMA and the Red Cross for help removing the mold or moving it, but have always been denied.

Elliott claims that FEMA denied the family’s housing benefit applications and that FEMA would still consider their home usable “since there is an intact roof.”

“Obviously not, my fiancé just passed away,” Elliot said.

“I want that policy to change.”

FEMA did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the US Sun.

According to the CDC, black mold can pose a significant health risk to people with asthma or compromised immune systems, and can even cause seizures.

Everyone would be in danger if there were enough of them.

When Hurricane Ian devastated their home last fall, parts of the walls turned to mush and one bedroom and bathroom became completely uninhabitable. That’s how Elliot explained that the trouble started.

After months of asking for help, the unthinkable happened.

Childers was hospitalized after suffering a severe asthma attack.

On Christmas Eve, while on a ventilator, Elliot claimed to have seen his fiancee for the last time.

Ultimately, he was medically pronounced brain dead after being placed in a coma.

The father of two children died on Monday.

With their experience, the family now wants to point out the bureaucratic hurdles and demand that FEMA change its regulations.
