Apple Sued Over iPhone 6’s Alleged Battery Explosion By Customer In US

Robert Franklin of Hopkins County, Texas, filed a class-action lawsuit against Apple for allegedly selling defective batteries and failing to meet warranty promises for its iPhone 6. The reason?

According to a report from AppleInsider, your iPhone 6 exploded in 2019 due to a battery failure.

According to the lawsuit, Franklin was listening to music on his iPhone 6 when he “noticed the music on his iPhone was skipped“. When he picked up the phone to check what was going on, “it [suddenly] exploded and caught fire in his face,” causing injuries to his eyes and wrists.

He reportedly fell after the explosion and injured his wrists while trying to prepare. His iPhone 6 was destroyed in the incident. The lawsuit was filed Thursday in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

The lawsuit also alleges that the iPhone 6 battery “contains a defect that prevents it from performing reliably” and that the defect “presents a fire and explosion hazard“.

Apple violated Texas law by “selling a non-marketable product” and found its warranty to be false, according to the lawsuit.

Franklin reportedly had financial problems as he had to pay to replace his iPhone and medical expenses to treat his injuries.
