Apple CEO Announced Donations For Flood Relief in Pakistan

Pakistan receives flood aid from local and international benefactors. The United Nations recently pledged more than $160 million to help alleviate the disaster, and now Apple CEO Tim Cook Pakistan is also coming to the rescue.

The executive announced on Twitter that Apple would donate to relief and reconstruction efforts in Pakistan. He also said that the floods in and around Pakistan are devastating humanitarian disasters.

Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani activist and Nobel laureate, was quick to respond to Cook’s generous gesture.

Other Pakistani Twitter users also joined in, suggesting helpful links for donations and more.

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal was among those who thanked Cook for his support, adding that Pakistan faces global warming despite being the country with the lowest carbon emissions. He also said more than 30 million people have been displaced due to the floods and that the G-7, the OECD, and the Fortune 100 have a responsibility to help fight the disaster.

So far, more than 1,100 people have lost their lives in the floods and more than 30 million are suffering. More than a million homes and other buildings were damaged and more than 800,000 animals have swept away, according to reports from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
