What do you mean by Amber List?

The Scottish and UK governments have divided the world into red, amber, and green countries based on the risk that travelers with coronavirus will come to the UK and spread new strains that can spread the pandemic.

Currently, both lists are the same, but Nicola Sturgeon has indicated that this could change in the future.

Travel to Green List countries for recreational purposes is permitted, but travelers still need to be tested for coronavirus before and after their trip.

There is a complete ban on anyone traveling to a Red List country for recreational purposes, and those traveling from there must book a stay in an expensive quarantine hotel for 10 days.

The vast majority of countries are on the Amber List, including top European travel destinations, the United States, and Canada. This means that upon arrival in the UK, travelers will have to isolate themselves within their own four walls for 10 days.

What other UK rules are there for arrivals from Amber List countries?

In addition to the 10 day self-isolation period, those arriving from an Amber List country must complete a passenger tracking form, take a coronavirus test prior to travel, and book a coronavirus travel test on the second and eighth days of their isolation.

You have to reserve these test kits online via the CTM reservation portal. Free cross-flow tests or those offered by private companies are not acceptable.

Can I do the vacation in a country on the Amber List?

There is no law that says you cannot vacation to an Amber List country.

However, the Scottish Government Council says: “You should think carefully before booking any vacation or leisure trip to any country or area on the Amber List. Traveling abroad carries the risk of bringing new cases and variants of COVID-19 to Scotland.”

And today Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned people shouldn’t vacation in the countries on the list, but he refused to legislate against it.

In the meantime, Nicola Sturgeon said, “Given the risk of new variations, we still want to be very careful when traveling internationally, but we believe the situation now allows us to cautiously deviate from general restrictions on non-essential travel. Everyone should seriously think about whether they really need to go abroad this summer. I know that for many people international travel is about family relationships. But when it comes to vacationing abroad, my advice is still to play it safe and stay on vacation this summer.”
