The UAE is Reviewing Visa Requirements For Overseas Residents

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced a re-entry permit system for its residents staying outside the country for more than 6 months.

To obtain the permit, residents must state the reason for their extended stay outside the country and submit the required documents to the UAE Federal Agency for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) through their website, Intelligent Services Centers, or Writing Centers.

After the application process, ICP will send an approval email to the applicant within 5 business days. Also, a residence visa will be automatically canceled if its holder has stayed abroad for more than 180 days (6 months), except for Golden Visa holders.

The re-entry permit system is part of the latest set of reforms implemented by the UAE government. The fees for issuing an Emirates ID card and visa have also been increased from AED100 to AED370 each for an Emirates ID card and month visit visa.

Also, visitors are now unable to renew visas within the country but must exit and return on a new visa. The residency visa is now linked to the holder’s Emirates ID Card and does not require a visa sticker in their passport.
