The death toll was a few days and in some cases weeks. Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn called for a “global restart” in the fight against pandemics when Germany and the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the creation of another world center in Berlin to collect information on pandemics.

At a virtual press conference, which was also attended by Chancellor Angela Merkel and the highest authority of the WHO, Spahn said the world was still poorly prepared for pandemics.

The new hub in Berlin, connecting legislative, academic, and private foundations, hopes to address global information to anticipate, prevent and respond to the dangers of pandemics and plague around the world.
