Sindh Govt Declares Holiday For All Public And Private Schools And Colleges

The government of Sindh has declared 8th March as a public holiday for schools and universities on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat.

Haider Ali Shah, president of the Sindh Association of Private Schools and Universities, confirmed the holiday.

He added that Shab-e-Barat is an annual public holiday set in the schedule of the Ministry of Education Steering Committee and therefore educational institutions remain closed on the occasion.

He further pointed out that the federal government reinstated the public holiday on 23rd March to commemorate Pakistan Day.

Shab-e-Barat is observed on the 15th night of Sha’ban. The meaning of Shab-e-Barat varies between different Muslim communities, but it is commonly seen as a night of forgiveness, blessings, and mercy.

A day ago, the Sindh government announced two public holidays for the Hindu community to mark Holi across the province.

The provincial government has declared March 6 and March 7 as public holidays for all Hindu employees of all autonomous, semi-autonomous, and state organizations under the administrative control of the Sindh government, according to the official statement.
