PMD Expects More Rain And Snow This Weekend

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain with snowfall for the country’s high and western hills from Saturday through Monday.

According to the latest PMD alert, a westerly wave is likely to enter the western portions on Saturday and likely enter the upper portions on Sunday and could continue through Monday.

Under the influence of this weather system, rainstorms/thunderstorms with scattered hail (snowfall on hills) are expected in Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, UK, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, and Abbottabad from Saturday to Sunday.

Showers and thunderstorms accompanied by scattered hail are forecast for Islamabad, Pothohar region, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahaudddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Khushab, Mianwali, Sargodha expected, Karak, Peshawar, Charsada, Nowshera, Swabi, Buner, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Bannu and DI Khan on Sunday and Monday.

Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms with snowfall is expected on hills in Quetta, Zhob, Barkhan, Harani, Qila Saifullah, Qillah Abdullah, Chamman, Pishin, Panjhur, Turbat, Khuzdar, Kalat, and Makran coast on Saturday and Sunday.

Light rain is also expected in Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, DG Khan, Sukkur, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Okara, and Pakpattan during the forecast period.

Isolated moderate to heavy snowfall could cause disruption and road closures in Murree, Galiyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, and Bagh on Saturday and Sunday. Landslides may also occur in Upper KP, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and GB during the forecast period.

Tourists have been advised to be very cautious during the forecast period. The rain will benefit standing crops, particularly in the Barani regions of Punjab and KP.

Temperatures are expected to fall by 2-4°C after the forecast period. All stakeholders have been advised to remain vigilant to avoid unfavorable situations during the forecast period.
