Government Declares Subsidies Of Rs. 6 Billion For Major Food Products In Public Utility Stores

Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) in charge of Information and Broadcasting, declared that the govt had decided to immediately handover Rs. 6 billion in grants to Utility Stores Corporation (USC), which will help reduce major commodity prices.

She wrote in a tweet that “This amount will significantly reduce the prices of flour, cooking oil, sugar, rice and pulses.”

She said that the decision was made today at a meeting chaired by PM Imran Khan to discuss ways to relieve the public and reduce the price of major commodities.

The prime minister praised the measure by reducing the prices of everyday items and providing relieve to the consumers, she further stated.

The Prime Minister has held three consecutive meetings on this matter in the last three days.

The Prime Minister has asked senior officials of utility stores to design a program to help sell five low-cost food products throughout the country. All five products will be available in utility stores throughout the country.

The Prime Minister recently held a meeting that reviewed the current situation of basic necessities prices, such as flour, butter, sugar and other products, as well as measures taken to control the price.

PM requested that a special unit be created within the Ministry of National Food Security to make timely decisions on demand assessment and the provision of major commodities.
