Closure of Schools, Colleges and Universities Extends Till May 23 in Pakistan NCOC

Educational institutions in Sindh to remain closed until furthur improvement

City (Karachi): The Sindh government has decided to keep all educational institutions in the province closed until the coronavirus situation improves.

The decision was made when the provincial coronavirus task force met here on Saturday with the Chairman of the Prime Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah. Previously, educational institutions had to resume regular classes from May 24th.

The task force commissioned Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani to ensure the coronavirus vaccination of teaching staff in educational institutions as a matter of priority.

The task force also decided to keep all coronavirus lockdown restrictions on for an additional two weeks, given the current COVID-19 situation in Sindh.

All resorts and tourist destinations in the province will remain closed during this time. However, the jogging or hiking trails remain open during this time. The wedding halls will also remain closed. Intercity passenger transport can be operated with 50 percent of the passengers, as bus companies have to pay a heavy fine for violating this regulation.

All non-essential shops and department stores remain open until 6:00 p.m. daily.

Coronavirus Statistics (Updated 22nd May 2021)

The meeting was told that 213 people have died of COVID-19 in the province in the past 30 days. Of these 213, 164 people were ventilated in different hospitals, 42 were hospitalized without ventilation, while 26 patients died while in isolation at home.

The meeting was also informed that the current coronavirus positivity rate in the province is 8.8%. On May 13, Sindh had 1,232 cases of coronavirus on the day of Eid Al-Fitr, while the number of cases rose to 2,136 on May 21. The COVID-19 positivity rate in Karachi was 13.97% for the past seven days from May 15 to May 21.


Sindh CM has said on the occasion that these statistics show that coronavirus cases have increased in Sindh after Eid Al-Fitr.
