The Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has passed legislation establishing the Abu Dhabi Transport Company (ADTC).

Reporting to the Supreme Council for Financial and Economic Affairs, the new entity will support Abu Dhabi in developing an integrated and sustainable transport system.

The ADTC will be responsible for the transport system in rural and urban areas. It will also develop a rail network and introduce car and bus rentals in the emirate.

The Supreme Council for Financial and Economic Affairs also approved the decision to form the Company’s Board of Directors. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will be the chairman while Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, Muna Al Dhaheri, Shadi Khalid Malak, Saeed Rashid Al Zaabi, Talal Al Dhiyebi, and Ahmed Al Hashemi will be the members.

Future rail network between the United Arab Emirates and Oman

The UAE’s Etihad Rail Company and the Oman Rail Network will jointly develop a $3 billion, 303km rail link between the UAE and Oman to boost regional economic activity.

Passenger trains traveling at 200 km/h will cut the journey time from Sohar to Abu Dhabi to just 1 hour 40 minutes and from Sohar to Al Ain to just 47 minutes. Freight trains will travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h.
