Bollywood Superstar Rishi Kapoor passes away at age of 67 due to leukaemia cancer

According to Indian media reports, Bollywood superstar Rishi Kapoor passes away on Thursday at the age of 67.

Kapoor was admitted to hospital on Wednesday after complaining about breathing difficulties.

The 67-year-old Kapoor, the sprout of a famous film industry, survived his wife and two children and was diagnosed with leukaemia cancer in 2018.

“He remained cheerful and determined to be treated on two continents for a maximum of two years,” the family said in a statement.

The actor moved to New York for treatment immediately after the cancer was discovered and returned to his hometown of Mumbai last September.

He had been admitted to hospital twice in February this year, first in Delhi for an infection and then in Mumbai with very high fever.

Kapoor’s death followed the Wednesday of another bollywood actor, 54-year-old Irrfan Khan, who played key roles in films like “Life of Pi” and “Jurassic World” and also suffered from cancer.

Kapoor’s family urged his fans, who would normally be expected to flock to the streets to mourn him, to follow the new rules of social distancing from the coronavirus.

“There are numerous restrictions on movement and public gathering. We would like to ask all of his fans, best wishes and family friends to abide by the laws in force,” the family added.

Rishi Kapoor had a background in which all his family members have worked in bollywood industry.

His grandfather Prithviraj Kapoor, father Raj Kapoor, brothers Randhir and Rajeev, and his son, grandchildren and grandchildren all have contributed to the indian cinema.

He debut in indian cinema at the age of 16 and in 1970 played a younger version of his father’s character in the film “Mera Naam Joker” (My name is Joker). Later he made a name for himself as a romantic hero with a new face.
