Apple Won’t Increase iPhone 14 Production Due To Falling Demand

Apple Inc is abandoning plans to ramp up production of its new iPhones this year after failing to meet an expected surge in demand, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The company has asked suppliers to scale back efforts to ramp up production of its flagship iPhone 14 family to up to six million units in the second half of this year, Bloomberg reported.

Instead, the Cupertino, California-based company is aiming to produce 90 million phones during that period, about the same number as a year ago and in line with Apple’s original guidance for this summer, the report says.

Apple did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Demand for the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro models is stronger than for entry-level versions, and at least one Apple supplier is shifting production capacity from cheaper iPhones to higher-end models, Bloomberg reported.
